According to the movie Field of Dreams if you build it they will come. That’s not really the case with a new website. You need to build it and promote it before anyone comes. Let’s learn about four services you should sign up with after your website launches. Then you will be able to track your visitors and make better website decisions in the future.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a web analytic reporting service offered by Google that tracks and reports on your website visits. This service doesn’t actually help bring traffic to your site but will help you see how visitors are finding your site, how long they spend on it and where they are located. Having this data from launch can help you decide on topics to blog about or where to place online ads.
Keyword Hero
To give Google Analytics an additional boost sign up for Keyword Hero. Once you’ve collected a good amount of data in Google Analytics you might notice—when you check your organic search keywords—there is an abundance of “not provided” keywords. In 2010 Google announced they would no longer provide keyword data in Analytics as a way to protect the privacy of the searcher. Keyword Hero reverse that “not provided” keyword and displays the search term someone used to find your website.
Google and Bing Webmaster Tools
Both Google and Bing Webmaster Tools are free services that allow the site owner to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their website. Once you’ve configured and verified your site the services will start collecting data, similar to Analytics but is on a few week delay. So the data is not real-time like in Analytics. You will also be able to add your sitemap link in both services so anytime you make a change, add a page, product, fix a meta title, etc. Google and Bing will be aware of the change and can update your search listings.
